Today, I was reminded about the power of slogans. When I first stopped drinking, these were a GO-TO for me and my program. They did and still do get me through really tough moments when I wanted to drink or didn’t know what to do. They are catchy, easy to remember, and help me practice the program in the moment.

Here’s the list of many that I have encountered through my AA days:

  • One day at a time
  • Keep your head where your feet are
  • Think, Think, Think
  • Keep It Simple Stupid
  • FEAR- Face Everything And Recover
  • FEAR- F*ck Everything And Run
  • FEAR – False Evidence Appearing Real
  • It works if you work it
  • Easy Does it
  • Spot it you got it
  • Let Go and Let God
  • Let Go or Get Dragged
  • Do a 4th or drink a 5th
  • Stick with the winners
  • We are only as sick as our secrets
  • NUTS – Not Using the Steps
  • GOD – Good Orderly Direction
  • GUS – Great Universal Spirit
  • EGO- Easing God Out
  • A grateful heart doesn’t drink
  • This too shall pass
  • HALTS – Hungry Angry Lonely Tired Sick
  • When in doubt, don’t
  • Play the tape the whole way through
  • Would you rather be happy or right?
  • God doesn’t make junk

I know there are more out there than my list! What’s your favorite slogan?

  1. Wait for the miracle.
    Don’t believe everything you think.
    Feelings aren’t facts.
Is this good for me mentally, physically, spiritually?
    Pause, reflect, respond.
    Keep coming back!!!
