The sponse and I journeyed out to another part of town tonight to visit a new meeting for us. It was perfectly refreshing. There were new faces, hilarious drunk-alogs, and tales of what living the program has given these people. I love that each meetings has its own flavor, yet the underlying message remains consistent (thank you traditions!). It was AA in all its glory.
There was so much humor tonight that I was reminded of this passage from Alcoholics Anonymous,
“So we think cheerfulness and laughter make for usefulness. Outsiders are sometimes shocked when we burst into merriment over a seemingly tragic experience out of the past. But why shouldn’t we laugh? We have recovered, and have been given the power to help others.”
The first line reminds me of the complement to the slogan floating around in my head lately, “happiness is the result of right actions”. When I am useful, I feel happy, and when I am happy, I become useful. Pretty powerful thoughts for this alcoholic.
Feeling grateful for my recovery, my life, and yes folks, even my “problems”…
